Pre-Columbian Huari Plume headdress from the South Coast of Peru, ca. 800-1000 CE.  Made with red and yellow threads, dyed with vegetable dyes that the ancient Huari used. Hair from camelids such as alpaca and vicuña were used as well. Each strand is separated by beads made from turquoise, Criscola and shell. The second piece of the plume we can see a fabric with geometric flower figures and several teeth attached most likely that of a fox. The second textile is a headband made with brown and white cotton threads, which went on the head and served as support for the Plume. The third piece is a textile made in Alpaca hair and would have been worn as a necklace. Finally, we have a pectoral that went under the collar, this pectoral is woven with Alpaca wool. This plume with its accessories would have belonged to an important individual of the Huari culture. A rare and museum quality example! Plume measures 11 3/8" in height x 15" wide, Second textile measures 10" in width x 4 3/8" in height, third piece measures 22" in length, fourth piece measures 21" in length. Attached to a frame that can be hung on a wall. Ex. Hannah Gandelman collection acquired through family descent, Hollywood, Fl. In the family collection prior to 1970.
