Pre-Columbian Moche 4 Funerary mask with gold nose ring from the North Coast of Peru, ca. 100-800 CE. A fine example of a funerary of an important individual. The mask is painted orange with white details and decorated with a gold nose ring (16 to 18 carats) that weighs approximately 3 grams. This mask would have held some kind of ornaments (now missing) in the ears as can be seen by the large holes on the ear lobes. These masks would have represented the deceased owner and would have been tied to his face. Old collection tags on the back. Ex. Burton/Teubner Estate. 6 5/8" in height x 7 3/4" in width.
