A standing male warrior, San Sebastian Red type, Nayarit State, Mexico, 100 BCE - CE 250, brownish red earthenware with traces of red paint; incised and burnished surface areas. In excellent condition with professional restoration to the areas of the barrel armor, chest and helmet, and bottom tip of club. A classic example of a male warrior figure wearing full gear and holding a long club. These effigies were created to defend the soul of the deceased in the tombs and are typically positioned to battle any evil forces believed to come from the left. This figure holds the club in readiness for such a strike. 23-1/2" height.
