Pre-Columbian anthropomorphic figure is a quintessential example of Mezcala stone carving from ancient Mesoamerica, dating between 500 and 200 BCE. Carved from a dark, speckled stone with visible patina and weathering, the figure showcases the abstract geometric style characteristic of the Mezcala culture.

The figure’s simplified human form is composed of bold angular features, including a defined head, stylized torso, and distinct legs, all with subtle detailing to suggest the human anatomy. The polished surface and minimalist design reflect the Mezcala’s reverence for abstraction and their use of stone figures in ritual and funerary contexts. The front side features incised lines emphasizing the facial structure, while the back is smooth with a slightly concave curvature. 4 5/8" in height. Ex Barney G. Malone collection, Texas, acquired prior to 1970.
