A captivating ceramic vessel from the Moche culture of northern Peru, ca. 600–800 CE, this piece features a fox in anthropomorphic form, seated and depicted as a drummer. The fox, a symbolic figure in Moche mythology, is shown with a fierce yet playful expression, emphasizing the duality of its role in Andean cosmology. This rare artifact seamlessly blends form and function, doubling as a spouted vessel used for ceremonial or ritual purposes. The fox’s body is adorned with geometric patterns and a smooth reddish-brown glaze, accented with cream tones. The painted details around its neck further enhance the visual storytelling.
