Veracruz Incensario Figure

Important and Monumental Pre-columbian Veracruz Seated Incensario Figure from Mexico, ca. 600-900 A.D. Incensario dedicated to the god Chaac in the shape of a seated figure. The realistic expression on the face is striking and most likely depicts and actual individual. He is depicted wearing a large headdress of the god Chaac. Remains of stucco and yellow/orange paint are still present and the eyes are highlighted with black bitumen. This piece is impressive and larger than life size. Less than 100 examples known to exist with this one being one of the largest we have seen.
