This exceptional hollow buff earthenware figure, originates from the Tlatilco culture of Central Mexico, possibly Morelos State, during the Early Preclassic period (1200-900 BCE). Characterized by its distinct San Pablo type, the figure displays the iconic proportions of Tlatilco art, with an exaggerated head and elongated body.
The figure features finely modeled details, including a high, flaring headdress, expressive facial features with large almond-shaped eyes, and a small, incised mouth. The arms rest on wide hips, and the torso is adorned with a subtle pierced navel, emphasizing fertility motifs. The surface retains traces of a burnished red slip, indicative of the Tlatilco tradition, though the slip has slightly faded with time.
