Pre-Columbian Nazca kero, dating back to 200–600 CE, is an exceptional example of the Nazca civilization’s artistic legacy. Handcrafted from fine terracotta, this ceremonial vessel showcases bold geometric and figurative designs painted in vibrant polychrome hues. The meticulous craftsmanship and striking motifs reflect the ceremonial significance of the kero in Nazca culture, often used in rituals or to hold ceremonial beverages.

The surface of the vessel is adorned with horizontal bands featuring alternating patterns of stylized feline heads, zigzag motifs, and vertical lines. These designs are painted in earthy tones of red, orange, cream, and black, characteristic of Nazca pottery. The feline motifs, with their sharp features and expressive eyes, symbolize power and the connection to spiritual realms. The geometric patterns complement the intricate imagery, creating a harmonious balance between form and decoration. The gently flared shape of the kero enhances its aesthetic appeal while serving a functional purpose. Ex. Private Hollywood, Fl. collection, acquired in the 70's.

Restored from about 8 pieces with restoration over the break lines. A small one-inch section restored with new material.
