Description

Ancient bronze spearhead from the Luristan region of western Iran, featuring a long leaf-shaped blade and narrow tang, commonly referred to as the “rat tail” type. This elegant form is characteristic of Luristan bronze weaponry of the early first millennium BC and reflects the advanced bronze-working traditions of the region.

The spearhead displays a well-defined central blade with gently tapering edges and a long, slender tang intended for hafting. The surface exhibits an attractive ancient green patina with areas of earthen encrustation and corrosion consistent with age and burial. The form and proportions closely correspond to documented examples held in major museum collections.

Accompanied by an old dealer reference card from Kenny’s Ancient Coins, citing comparable examples published in the British Museum and the Ashmolean Museum collections, including references to P. R. S. Moorey and G. Zaltaas. The reference card also notes the traditional dating and typology of the piece.
