Pre-Columbian Maya Copador-Style Polychrome Vase with Seated Figures, Jaguars, and Deer
A tall pottery vase with a gently flaring rim, decorated with two bands of figural imagery separated by a broad deep-red central field. Painted in black, orange, and red against a cream ground, the scenes feature seated human figures in elaborate attire alongside spotted jaguars and a long-eared deer. The jaguars appear in animated, humanlike poses, with curling tails, open mouths, and prominently displayed teeth. Bold outlines and expressive gestures lend movement to the composition, which continues around the vessel.
Height: 9 3/8 inches.
Condition: Surface wear and scattered pigment losses, with rim chips and visible cracks or joins.
