Description

Ancient Roman Lead Figure of Serapis Holding Cornucopia
Roman Empire, ca. 1st–3rd century CE

A finely cast lead figure depicting the syncretic Greco-Egyptian deity Serapis, shown standing in draped garments with pronounced, deeply modeled folds. The figure raises one arm to support a cornucopia, symbolizing abundance and prosperity, while wearing a tall modius crown—an identifying attribute of the deity. Despite surface wear, the composition retains a strong sculptural presence and clear iconographic detail.

The surface exhibits expected oxidation, encrustation, and softening consistent with age, with minor losses commensurate with burial and material. Mounted for display.

Height: 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm)
Provenance: Ex Mouris Khouli, New York
