Large Herodian Pottery Cooking Pot
Roman Judaea, circa 1st century BCE–1st century CE
A substantial Herodian pottery cooking pot with a rounded body, sloping shoulders, and a short neck ending in a thick, outward-projecting rim. Two sturdy loop handles join the rim to the shoulders, while closely spaced horizontal grooves encircle the upper body, giving way to broader ribbing below.
The surface displays mottled charcoal-gray, brown, and ochre tones with pale encrustation emphasizing its textured exterior. Its generous proportions and balanced form offer an evocative connection to domestic life in Judaea during the Herodian period.
Dimensions: 7¼ inches high × 8½ inches wide (18.4 × 21.6 cm).
Provenance: Ex Sami Taha collection, Israel; exported from Israel with export approval.
