Pre-Columbian Guerrero Greenstone Double-Face Pendant – Chontal
Description
Pre-Columbian Guerrero Greenstone Double-Face Pendant – Chontal Style – 2”
Up for sale is an exceptional Pre-Columbian greenstone pendant from the Guerrero region, attributed to the Chontal tradition, known for its abstract facial carvings and minimalist sculptural forms. This finely worked piece features a primary human mask face on the front, with characteristic broad planes, slit eyes, and modeled lips.
When reversed and viewed upside-down, the back reveals a second carved visage, forming a rare dual-face configuration. This inversion masks were used throughout Guerrero and Oaxaca for symbolic, ritual, or transformative purposes.
The pendant is multi-perforated, including suspension holes at the sides and a drilled opening at the bottom that allows the piece to be worn or mounted in either orientation—further supporting its dual-face ceremonial use.
