Pre-Columbian Maya Pottery Standing Figure with Traces of Maya Blue, Guatemala
Description
An expressive Pre-Columbian Maya ceramic figure from Guatemala, modeled in the round with a cylindrical lower body and strongly rendered facial features. The figure wears prominent ear ornaments and a collar-like adornment at the neck, elements consistent with Maya figural tradition. Notably, remnants of original Maya blue pigment remain visible across the surface, providing rare evidence of ancient polychromy.
The surface exhibits authentic age wear, mineral encrustations, and firing irregularities, all consistent with antiquity. The back remains minimally modeled, a common trait in Maya ceramic figures intended for ritual or domestic contexts.
