A striking example of ancient Andean ceramic artistry, this Pre-Columbian bowl originates from the Nariño culture of southern Colombia, dating between 800–1500 CE. Handcrafted in terracotta and decorated using a resist-slip painting technique, the interior features a boldly abstracted bird figure in ochre and red pigments over a dark burnished ground. The central band of the figure is filled with red circular dots, possibly symbolizing plumage or ceremonial adornment.
Set on a pedestal base, the bowl exhibits the elegant proportions and symbolic aesthetics typical of highland Nariño ceramic traditions. The form remains well-preserved with some minor surface wear and age patina consistent with archaeological origin.
