This rare Pre-Columbian Nazca polychrome pottery kero, dating to the Early Intermediate Period (100–600 CE), demonstrates the Nazca culture's mastery of painted ceramics and their symbolic artistry. The cylindrical vessel features intricate polychrome decorations depicting stylized anthropomorphic figures in red, green, and white, engaged in ceremonial or ritualistic postures. The figures are interspersed with crescent shapes and abstract motifs, set against a vibrant red background, above a black and natural-toned lower section.
The kero, used for ceremonial drinking of chicha or other ritual beverages, highlights the vibrant iconography and meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of Nazca pottery. Its elegant form and dynamic, colorful motifs reflect the Nazca culture’s ceremonial and artistic traditions. Ex. Private Hollywood, Fl. collection, acquired in the 70's. 7" in height. TL tested by Ralf Kotalla in Germany.
