Description

This Pre-Columbian Quimbaya culture seated figure originates from the Cauca region of Colombia and dates to approximately 500 BCE – 500 CE. The sculpture is modeled in solid terracotta and depicts a seated human figure with knees bent forward and hands resting upon the thighs, a posture commonly associated with ritual or ceremonial representation in Quimbaya figural art.

The figure features a rounded head with pierced ears, almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, and a calm, composed facial expression. Remnants of original mineral-based pigment remain visible across the surface, with dark and reddish slip decoration still preserved on the torso and face. The body is proportioned with subtle anatomical detailing including chest and abdomen modeling, emphasizing the sculptural quality of the piece.

The surface shows expected age wear, burial encrustation, and mineral deposits consistent with authentic ancient ceramics. No modern repainting or restoration is observed. Overall condition is very good for its age, with natural surface weathering and stable structure.
