Description

A finely modeled Ancient Egyptian terracotta ushabti figure dating to the Ramesside Period of the New Kingdom, circa 1279–1213 BCE. The figure is rendered in classic mummiform pose, with arms folded across the chest, and retains notable traces of original polychrome decoration.

The face is carefully detailed, preserving red pigment across the facial features, framed by a black-painted tripartite wig. Painted elements extend across the chest, including a stylized collar, while a vertical column of hieroglyphs runs down the front of the body, executed in black pigment within linear borders. Additional painted detail is visible on the reverse.

Ushabtis were placed within tombs to serve the deceased in the afterlife, acting as substitute laborers when called upon. Ramesside examples are particularly recognized for their refined facial modeling and painted surface decoration, making them highly desirable among collectors.

The surface shows expected age-related wear, including areas of pigment loss, encrustation, and stable cracking consistent with burial and antiquity. The figure remains intact and presents well.
