Description

Ancient ceramic oil lamp dating to the Hellenistic / Early Roman period, approximately 10 BC–100 AD. This is the classic “Herodian type,” associated with Judea/Palestine during the time of the Herodian dynasty.

Wheel-made with a rounded globular body, wide central filling hole, and short pointed nozzle. The surface is plain and undecorated, a characteristic frequently linked to cultural preferences in the region at the time. Olive oil would have been poured into the filling hole, with the wick set at the nozzle for use as a household light source.

The piece shows mineral deposits and surface encrustations consistent with age and burial. A red inventory mark remains on the underside, likely from an earlier collection. No repairs are visible under normal inspection.

A well-formed example of an important lamp type connected to daily life in Judea during the early Roman period.
