Ancient Sumerian Stone Bead Necklace

Mesopotamia, ca. 2600–2200 BCE

A finely composed strand of alternating black and cream-colored stone disc beads, characteristically cylindrical to slightly convex in profile. Each bead has been meticulously drilled through the center, forming a striking monochrome pattern that exemplifies early Sumerian lapidary skill. Such necklaces were often worn as personal adornments and held symbolic or amuletic value in ancient Mesopotamian society. The beads exhibit fine mineral patination and ancient wear consistent with long burial.
