PRE-COLUMBIAN COLIMA OBSIDIAN “MAHOGANY” CRESCENT, WEST MEXICO, CA. 300 BCE – 300 CE
A rare and finely flaked obsidian crescent, crafted from striking mahogany-colored volcanic glass, exhibiting natural iridescence and deep reddish-black hues. Likely worn as a pectoral, this elegant form displays a subtle taper and careful symmetry, with drilled perforations at both ends for suspension. Such crescents were associated with status and ceremonial use among the shaft tomb cultures of ancient Colima.
