Pre-Columbian Colima Pottery Standing Figure
Colima Culture, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE–300 CE

A charming solid pottery figure from the Colima culture of ancient West Mexico. The figure is depicted standing with arms folded across the chest, wearing prominent ear spools, a loincloth, and an elaborate headdress or coiffure. The expressive facial features, elongated nose, and compact proportions are characteristic of Colima figural sculpture from the Early to Protoclassic periods.

Figures of this type were commonly placed as funerary offerings within shaft tombs and are valued for their lively, humanized representations of daily life, ritual participants, and community members. The simple yet confident modeling and warm terracotta surface display the aesthetic qualities for which Colima ceramic artists are renowned.

The piece exhibits an attractive ancient surface with expected burial wear and mineral deposits consistent with age.
